  1. I took a chance and got a pleasant surprise!

I placed my order on a weekend and Monday morning I received a call from Riff City asking if I wanted them to install the new strings I ordered when they did the free setup on the guitar. That kind of service on a $200 guitar was unexpected!
First impression "It's so small"! I had read about that perception and next to a Les Paul it is! I can't find any blemishes on the body and it looks great! The knobs and switches are smooth and positive. The pick guard is a layered white and black gloss plastic. The jack plate is metal and makes a good connection. The tremolo works. But I would go easy on it. I was curious about the "different" neck shape but I find it very comfortable. The neck has a satin finish and is very smooth. The rosewood fingerboard edge has a slight bevel giving a rounded feel but the quality of wood at this price point has some small voids. It is more visible than felt. The tuning machines feel solid and seem to stay in tune so far! The frets are jumbo I believe, bigger than my Epi Les Paul. Here is where I start the detractors. The fret ends are beveled but not rounded giving them a sharp feel. Mine don't draw blood but I will be doing some work on them. Fret buzz! Placed a capo on first fret and every string buzzes. I checked the setup and it is to factory specs. I do not blame Riff City for this. Unplugged it is a buzz monster right now. I'll work on it. It doesn't get picked up by the pickups though! Pickups are very subjective. I like the single coils, think Strat and your there. They sound pretty good through a BB Booster into my Trinity Tramp tube amp! The humbucker is very trebly. Gets very muddy when overdriven. Your mileage may vary. I wanted single coils so a new pickguard loaded with 3 single coils is looking very good to me! I really like this guitar! You get a lot of guitar for the money. It's not a $1600 MM Silhouette but Riff City treats you like it is. It looks and feels like it. It wont break the bank. I give it 4 stars because of the frets and humbucker. Almost forgot. The tool that is meant to adjust the truss rod doesn't fit the holes in the wheel! Can't wait to play it again!
