Introduced in 1964 as a student model, its small scale, easy playability and full tone, quickly made it the hero of garage bands everywhere. This guitar thrives on nonconformity, and now features upgraded components that are great for players who march to the beat of their own drum.
Fender have reworked the Mustang, stripping away superfluous controls and making it modern and simple. Gone are the upper bout switching, in favor of a three way toggle switch, a master volume and tone. There are two versions - one with Fender's MP-90, soap bar pickups - warm, with a bluesy thickness, that really gives this little guitar plenty of beef. The other is loaded with Mustang Single Coils - Tons of sparkle and focus.
They come with a 9.5" radius 24" scale maple 'C' shaped neck, with 22 medium jumbo frets all in a 24" scale. The single coil sports an all Maple neck and the MP-90 version is topped with a Rosewood fret board.
Both versions come with a string through body, strat syle hard tail bridge, with bent steel saddles and rock solid intonation.
The shorter scale and 'C' shaped necks make them great beginner's guitar, or for someone with smaller hands. The neck is easily navigated, giving you a comfortable guitar ready to take whatever you can throw at it.
Some fun new colors are added to the mix - The Mustang 90 coming in Silver, Olympic White and a stunning Torino Red. The single coil version comes in Black, Olympic White and, our favorite of all the 2016 colors, Olive green - With the pearloid pick guard it's an extremely well appointed underground sensation
